HIGH SCHOOL MEMORIES

I attended STCHS from 1980-1984. I have many fond memories of which are too many to share in this short space, but i will try to share a few with you. Although i only attend for four years, the years started for me as a child going there and watching my father Junior (Mr.Guy) Guy played and coach the teams along with my uncle Anthony(T.G) Guy. Hanging out and growing up with Mr.Neal, Miss Neal, Eric Stewart, Remikie, and a lot of the St.Catherine All Star players was really a thrill for me. In 1980 when i started attending school there, i was already a part of the STCHS family. I started playing basketball on the B-Team for two two seasons, can"t remember if i made any appearance on the A-Team (smile), it's not easy playing for your dad. The next two years i played Manning Cup football. My form teacher for the four years was Mr.Trevor Myers. I look back now and shake my head, boy! we gave him hell, we gave and got into so much trouble. But he never gave up on us ."good man". I remember lunchtime sneaking through the fence to go buy lunch at Miss Beach shop (half of bread and two patty) on the way back we stop and get a skyjuice from the hand cart man. Now the problem....lol....is sneaking back in school.--Respect to all STCHS TEACHERS, PRINCIPALS, STUDENTS,and GROUNDS CREW. big ups to Coley Brothers Errol Anglin, Darrel Dawkins, big & Lil Mojo.

Hello everyone, my name is Claudette Watson and I left STCHS in 1977. Please note I didn't say I graduated in '77 because we were officially the first batch of students from this esteemed Institution, who were barred from having a graduation ceremony, due to the many "bad situations" we caused during our tenure there. Thanks to guys like Jimmy McBean, Courtney Haye, Michael Clarke, Newton (Junior) Whyte, Osmond Sirjue, and many, many others, our experiences were not only memorable, but unfortunately in some instances bordered on being downright unlawful, and I am here to let it be known that the classes of '79 and '95, most definitely came after us! If anyone were to ask Mr. Neale about us, I'm sure he would have many great stories to tell!

Seriously though, I have been extremely fortunate to have found some of my dear friends back. Namely, Lenore Clarke, Courtney Haye, Claudius Tapper, Monica Harvey, Richard Christian, Patricia Lewis, Lorna Aris, Cheryl Anglin, Michael Forbes, Marve Wilmot, BettyMore Joseph, and others that I have only spoken with on the phone. I have the most amazing, fond, memories from my time spent at the very best High School in Jamaica!!!!!! I am eagerly awaiting the opportunity of getting back in touch with many others like Christopher Jones, Marie Campbell, Donna McLaren, Yvonne Chin, Elsie Grant, Norlene Wilmot etc. My favourite teachers were Mr. Neale, Mrs. Ellis, and Mrs. Needham-Brown, and I can't wait to see them again! CLASS OF '77 let's get together and have a much LONG-AWAITED REUNION!!!!!!!!!!!
- Contributed by Claudette Reynolds, class of '77

I remember when the school bell rang for lunch and we use to rush to the wall to buy lunch, patty and sky-juice..then we use to sit under the tree and watch the other boys playing marble or lastic throwing or you would have some other boys a DJ or should i say trying to DJ..My days in senior block when we use to have BULLDOG ( the vice principal then.. ), a walk the block to see if anyone a skull class...those were the days...( smiled..), I even remembered being in class singing out loud, and some girls use to sorround me, not wanting me to go for lunch because they wanted me to sing some more...girls like Mitchele, the other girls use to adore her...she was tall and lovely...and a role model to some..she could sing good as well...Vandrea..girl from the netball team...Lavern...Keisha Gayle..a girl I had a crush on from primary school days...I even remember practising for manning cup one year...we ran for more than 3 hours after school, without playing no football..Mr Cato our PE teacher was the coach, but to turn serious ting inna joke.....the year we trained for manning cup, was the year that non played....we were VEX...but it was something to remember...I remember so many things, but for me to start from the beginning would take up a whole book....I remember the days when man an man us to go to the back of the canteen window to order lunch while u have the junior kids a join line, standing in the sun for most of their lunch break just to get lunch.. My name is Ricardo Nicholson ( aka satan )..and some people are right, we are due a reunion..I now reside in London but I am back in Jamaica every year for the Christmas holiday...peace to u all.

I can truly say I spent some of the best years of my life at St. Catherine High School. Buying lunch through the hole in the wall, Ms. Oliver's history classes, music with Ms. Douse, "sculling" Scooby's PE classes, being constant nuances to 6th formers (especially Shirley and Michelle - secret crushes)....the memories are endless. A great institution that has produced some great students (and I am included). Thank you St. Catherine High.

Hi my name is Yanekia Clarke and i graduated from SCHS in 2005 after doing two years of six form there. It was the best point of my school years, there i was friends with, Aeika Pitter, Camille Barrett, Kaydene White, Kym-ishka Williams, Donnetta McKeith, Michell Lettman, Dwight Lynch and Tanu Chatiry. We were knowen as the "DIPLOMATS" because we were the elite batch of the six form group. Our best teachers were, Mr Errol Martine and Miss Wilkes (the best economics teacher ever). We were all prefects and we also held post in different clubs. From the DIPLOMATS, WE SAY ENJOY SCHOOL, YOU WILL MISS IT WHEN IT'S OVER!
- Contributed by Yanekia Clarke, class of 2005

My name is Ray Wilson. I attended SCHS from '77 till '79. I was in 7 Allen which changed to 7 Johnson and was in 8 Jackson. My memories at SCHS are priceless. I was the only Barracks school boy in a class full of Catholic school kids. Despite that, I made life long friends. The lunch line, our 8 Jackson Christmas party and seeing Ranking Michigan at our Sports Day. Miss Lee was every school boy's crush and had the pleasure of dancing "Curly Locks" with her and kissing her on one of my last days at SCHS. I was such a "late bud".

My teachers instilled respect, pride and decency in us all. I carry all that with me to this day. I have fond memories all my classmates such as Delrine Billings, Patrick Cameron, Andrew Soon-Foong, Mark & Keith Thomas, Audrey & Lorriane Walker, Noel "Banny" Gaynor, Chedwick Stewart, Sharon Thompson, Sharon Buchanon, Marcia Parkes and much more! I would love to see you all someday. I live in NY and work in the music business. I have only been back to JA twice. The last time I was there I stopped the old school and shot a few pics.

If you're ever on this site, email me at jahray65 'at' yahoo.com or call me at VP Records.

My memories at St. Catherine High are immense. From entering Grade 7 and meeting all the new students from various Schools within St. Catherine. We have developed a great bond that will last a life time. We were the fortunate group that had the same form teacher, Mr. Smikle, may he rest in peace, as our home room teacher for most of the school years. He was more than a father to all of us. Some memories were built by the bond we shared and the relationship that grew by spending atleast 5 years of our lives together. I can remember the times we use to sit under the trees for study sessions or sit on the balconies upstairs just goofing off. Many times I would sit and reminisce about everyone and wish those days will come back again. I do miss you all, especially Joycie Sterling and Rosanna Roye. Not to mention the great bunch of boys, Orville Plummer, Andrew Moore, Dave Miller, Trevor Green, Everol Bailey and Audie Murphy. I hope we can all come to together again, atleast once more. I am very much interested in knowing about the 25 years reunion. Take care until we meet again. God Bless.

I can never forget my years at SCHS. Absolutely top-drawer stuff. People like Paul Brown & Marlene De-Lisser have already contributed their memories (Hi Marlene!) Then there's Cecelia Housen, Lincoln Walters, Jennifer Housen, Ian James & James Ramsaran (where are you guys?) Ricardo Chin, Owen Palmer. Who remembers Miss Anderson taking on Maureen Caesar in Pascal Hall? Mrs Needham Brown, Mr Baker, Miss Duffus, Mrs Johnson, Mr Neal & the rest of the most formidable teaching resource ever assembled. As Mr Smikle once said: "Those days were good days, man". From being caught by Mr Neal at Miss Mama's shop wolfing down bread & butter to playing in the the school choir band and, lest anyone forget, forming human chains to get home down the St John's Road during the raging floods of the time, SCHS was altogether an unforgettable, enjoyable experience. I'd study harder, given the chance to do it all again, but I wouldn't change much else for the world.
- Contributed by Cassius Powell, class of '82

My most found memories of STCHS, I would have to say are the days that we spent in Ms. Omealy' s history class and of course the days of no class and we would bond and re-discover why we are in the same world let alone in the same class and there was always chemistry class with Mr. Kent "the cute" teacher. Somehow we survived each other form 10-3 to 11-3.
- Contributed by Terry -Ann Lee, class of '99

I attended St. Catherine High from 1982 to 1987 with friends like Delroy Ethan, Rohan Bailey, Alfred MacAback and Christopher Beckford, but the year that is really vivid in my mind is the very last year in school. It was like the coming of age for me everything looked so clear like the world was for the taking we did adventerous things some mishievious some good. I tell you I will never forget that year as long as I live.
- Contributed by Carl Anthony Baxter, class of '87

My name is Deleta Campbell and since my class was not allowed to graduate. I completed high school in 1979. I was in class with Christine Chin, Christine Bryan, Yvette Bonner, Coleen McDougall, to name a few. My memories of school is bitter-sweet. I can recall six of us--"the famous six", as we were referred to by some teachers, were caught having lunch in a "bar" on St. John's Road by Sister Pascal. One can just image what happened afterwards.

I however, truly benefitted from the discipline and values that the school instilled and I know I am a better person for it!
- Contributed by Deleta Campbell, class of '79

I am Jacqueline Harrison. My memories of St. Catherine is just so awesome. I remember walking home from school with my girlfriends, Jackie Simmonds, Opal Beckford, Winnifred Webley, Jennifer Walters. Sister Paschal chewing us out, Madge Anderson. I remember Colleen Brown and her cool as cucumber sentence structure using Sandra Brown's face! The class going crazy when the teachers left for a minute only to have everybody flying back to their seats with "Smikle a come" Mr. Smikle was the BEST not to say the other teachers were not. Mrs. Brown made sure we knew English, Mr. Smikle made math a breeze.

I remember the days when we were told to not litter the place, even the road. To this day I don't even want to throw anything out my car window! Gee the nicknames some of the teachers were given was hilarious. Anyone remember Mrs. Needham Brown? There is so much more it will take a lifetime to tell it all. Jimmy, Trevor Green, Everol Bailey, Hugh Helps, Andrew Moore, Orville Plummer, Frank Crooks, Scarlett, Chicken (Colin McD) man I hope I see as many of these "old" kids. May God bless all of you.
- Contributed by Jacqueline Harrison, class of '80

My fondest memories are of my friends to name a few Maxine Thompson, Jennifer Brown, Sheryll Wade, Carol J. Reid, Carol I. Reid, Heather Delisser, Dianne McFarlane, Averdene Scott, Joy Gayle, Sharon Cameron-Brown, Clifford Shim and Geraldine Rhodd. I am very fortunate to be in contact with many of these persons. Most of us were from the famous nine-twelve that started in 1983 and we have remained friends all these years. Nuff respect to St. Catherine High for shaping me in the person I am today.

The class of "1979". We were the official class that did not graduate. The last week of exams when we were finished in the morning and they wanted us to stay in school till 2:40pm, we used to sneak through the back gate and go to Carib to the movies. Well, in 1979, we decided this was our last year so we had to top it off by doing something spectacular. Of course we thought we were grown now and we were invincible. We could do anything we wanted.

We planned our party, bought our food and soda, even had a barbecue. With music pumping, good food and great company we were having a wonderful time. That is till Sister Pascal and Andy showed up. No they were not there to join the party. They came to take us back to school. Of course we would not tell on each other, so they never found out who planned the party or who was there. Some people were never caught. We did receive our Diplomas but our punishment was no graduation ceremony. Class of 1995, I think we got you beat. We still have memories of the party.

I have fond memories of buying lunch at the fence, listening for "Andy a come". We used to hang at the Alligator pond. That was our favorite place to take pictures. We had some truly awesome teachers like Mrs Needham-Brown, Mr Neale, Mr Smikle, Mrs Howe-Carter, Mr Brown, Ms Oliver, Faith Palmer, Mrs Ellis, Ms Grant, just to name a few.

Fellow students like Christopher Powell, Joan Page, Teslyn Hayden, Lucy Benjamin, Kenneth Cyrus, Elaine Hansel, Roy Brown, Jacqueline Cox, Michael Wilson, where are you guys? Special people who managed to stay in touch, Loxley Smith, George Wilson, Paul Williams, Michael Hamilton, Sandra Stewart, Merinda Symons, Claudette Watson, June Beckford, you will forever be in my heart.

I was a member of probably one of the only classes in St Catherine's High history that did not have an official graduation. The infamous class of 1995. Our graduation was cancelled and money refunded because that was the year when some of our students allegedly cheated on the CXC exams and we had to take some of them over. That was a pain.

My fondest memories are of us in (7-1) standing in the sun in the quadangle. (Alot of Vitamin D as we use to say at the time). I also remember us in the seventh grade making alot of noise and Ms. McHugh would come in and say, " 7-1 empty barrels make the most noise." I will never forget her. Mr. Neale was also very instrumental in the education I received at SCHS. Also Ms. Oliver who was my history teacher who always ensured that students would stay away from the pipe during classtime. Our classroom was situated exactly in front of the pipe and everything that was happening at the pipe was in her seeing range. I remember one day she was dictating notes to us, and one of my classmates actually wrote what she said verbatum, "Get away from the pipe". (smile).

I also have very fond memories of Mrs. Mills, Ms. Neale, Mrs. Lindsay, Mr. Headley, Ms. Gina Johnson, Ms. Albert, Ms Grant, and Ms Lewis. Also Mr. Moore who was my form teacher and Biology teacher in 10-1 and 11-1. So anyone who is a member of the class of 95 please let's get together because a reunion is way OVERDUE.

My name is Ian Carty and I graduated from St. Catherine High School in 1984. I am now living in Toronto, Canada.

My memories - all I can say is WOW. So many - my fondest: walking home from 85 St. John's Road to Ensome City. I would often make this trip with my best friend Donovan Brown. The laughter and games and sometimes trouble we'd get into was great... like stopping by the canal for a swim. I would like to thank each and everyone of the staff back then from teachers to grounds crew.

My name is Jacqueline Williams-Holland and I graduated from St. Catherine High School in 1972 with Tenn Sang, Winston Garvey, Fredrick Dill, Patrick Mendez, Beverley Campbell, Marcia Bailey and others. I remember when we use to be on top of the roof in the Junior Department when St. Catherine High was playing basket-ball against another school and Mr. Neale was right there on top of the roof with us.

I remember also when I was in the choirs and we had to perform at the Spanish Town Park and we all felt so proud to see ourselves on television at that time. I remember when I got into trouble wearing earring to school and Mrs. Fuller was my homeroom teacher and she came down to the office and spoke to me and said that she had told me not to wear them to school and look what happened to me and I had to stay in Sister Paschal office all day. But that was OK because I was helping her staple papers, and now I am an Administrative Assistant living in Brooklyn, New York. I would love to get in contact with some of my classmate and would love to be informed when will be the next class reunion.

Buoy, what a beautiful "site". I have so many fond memories of SCHS I don't know where to begin. I fondly remember teachers like Ms Duffus, Ms Fuller, Mrs.Green, Ms Grant to name a few. I have not forgotten those days in 7 Johnson when Ms Johoson used to bang the piano and Karen Holt used to make Mr Williams' Math classes a living hell. Karen, where are you? I love you girl. Then there was Ms Haase our Math teacher in 8 McHugh who never smiled. Finally, I loved that 11 Grant crew. I remember us hiding from Andy all those times when we used to cut class. I now live in Queens NY and am presently teaching in the New York Public School system. Talk about getting a taste (or a full plate) of my own medicine!!

The memories are many but my fondest: a Manning cup match in Oct. 1980 vs.St. Jago. We were the clear under-dogs but came away with a 2-0 victory that shocked all of Spanish Town. That team included David "Ratty" Jones, Dorphine Desouza and Delton Phillips (goal). I also remember playing EXLCR in 1982 against Courtney Walsh (7 wickets) and being bowled out for 59 we returned to get them out for 47 and later went on to the schools first ever Sunlight Cup semi-finals, that team captained by Douglas Barnes, included Las Campbell, "Parrrot" and Steve Gordon. I also remember the netball team of Faith Rickets, Faith Francis, Marcia Edwards etal being crowned rural Champions in 1982 and finally..... "Reggie", not many schools had a character like that around who is still going strong.

I graduated from St. Catherine High School in 1979 and was one of the first student to be enrolled in 12 Business which was established by Miss Madge Anderson. Therefore, my official year of graduation is listed as 1980.

My years at St. Catherine High were some of the most memorable and fun time in my life. I had the opportunity to meet many outstanding personalities, both teachers and fellow students, for example, Andrew Wright, Chester Montague, Valentine Tyser, Mark Morris, Headley Davis, Roy Brown, Janet Collins Sandra Stewart, Monica Harvey, Rose-Marie Lee, Yvonne Robinson, Dalsena Brown, Viviene Tulloch and Melva Williams to name a few. The Teachers who had the greatest impact on my life was our current Principal, Mrs. Joan Tyser-Mills, Ms. Madge Anderson, Sr. Mary Paschal, Mr. Ken Neale, Mr. Anthony Baker and Mrs. Gloria Johnson.

I had the pleasure of being the master mind behind the "Award Ceremony" held in New York in honor of: Sr. Mary Paschal, Miss Madge Anderson, Mrs. Christobel Fuller, Sr. Ann-Marie and Mr. Ken Neale in the summer of 1997.

I want to be involved in planning the 2005 re-union.

My memory of St Catherine High is buying sandwiches and drinks from the prohibited vendors at the side fence and looking out and listening for the words "Andy a come."

This is such a wonderful site and evokes such fond memories. I remember Jacqueline Innis-Harrison, she was always neat and well groomed. Everol Bailey, Dave Miller, Karen Williams, Andrew Moore - all good friends. I remember how I cried when Mr. Smikle was shot, the fledgeling rugby team, the fests, the "Fortnight Media".

I hope everyone is blessed and doing well, I will check this site on a regular basis. If there is anything I can do for the old school let me know.

What I remember most about attending St. Catherine High was walking from school to Spanish Town, stopping at the corner at Old Harbour Road to buy jerk chicken/pork and dip bread. Wow that was great! The teachers definitely - Mr. Neale, Ms. Oliver, and how could I ever forget Mr. Myers who coached the girls volleyball team in 1985-86 that won their first match against Ardenne High. It was good to be a part of that team. Prayer and worship in Pascal Hall - we would sing until it sound like the roof was coming down. I look forward to a renunion of the class of '86.
- Contributed by Julian Mitchell Elliott, class of ''86

My memories are Paula Robinson, Novelette Hill, Marcia Bailey an myself running across the field to go through the fence and hearing Ms. Anderson clapping her hands to call us back and us ignoring her. We’ll deal with that tomorrow when we get back to school.

I now live in Atlanta, Ga. And work for the City of Atlanta Housing Authority as a Senior Advisor.

The best three years of my childhood memories, were spent at St. Catherine High from 1975 to 1978. Although I did not graduate from St. Catherine High, the memories will forever be embedded in my mind. I still have fond memories of Sister Paschal doling out punishment to me in the form of: walking around the quadrangle with a chair held overhead. Little did I know that she was preparing me all that time for my stint in the U.S. Army.

I graduated St catherine High in 1995. Those were five of the most happiest years of my life. I graduated with people like, Keisha Smith, Suzette Cliff, Lawanda Brown, Tamesha Brown, stacia Thomas. We called our crew the STALLK crew and we went to festival every year where we won gold in Folk songs. I would love to attend a reunion and I am sure all my friends would love to get together again. Frankly, a reunion is long overdue.

I think you have taken a huge step in bringing together past students from all around the globe. St. Catherine High had a great impact on the most formative years of my life, my teenage years. I remember guys like Leroy Laing, Albert Gordon, I enjoyed listening to the head boy who used to sing. Can't remember his name.

I graduated with guys like Trevor Green, Orville Plummer, Andrew Moore, Everol Bailey, "Jabber Jaws", Anthony Scarlett. Wow! Where are they today? I would love to be at the 1980 reunion. Mr. Smikle had the most profound impact on me. Looking back I don't know how the teachers coped with us! Those were great years, to remember.

I spent five wonderful years at SCHS with classmates like Paul Graham, Luke Tyrell, Lloyd Brown, Clifton Campbell, Clifford Francis, Ricky Malcolm, Joan McKale, Michelle Fuller, Patricia Tenn, Carol Douglas, Ann Wisdom...just to name a few. My favorite teachers were Ms Oliver, Ms Brown, Mr Neil and Mr Samuels. I am anxiously looking forward the 25th anniversary reunion for the graduating class of 1980.

I graduated class of 88' with the likes of Nadine Johnson, Petrona Vanhorne, Carey James, Raymond Passley, Leon Mitchell, just to name a few and I tell you we had some wicked memories. Two of my favourite teachers were Ms. McLaren in Grade 7 and Ms Woollery in Grade 10. Those are days worth remembering.......

I graduated the class of 88, with friends like Dwight Burke, Leon, Carey, Porter, Frederick, Raymond, Gracing, Lyncent, and the girls Gloria, Nadine, Colleen, yes Carolyn, Laurel, so I say hail up the 11-8 crew it was fun while we attend school. Letting the 10 former beat us in football was a joke. However we sure made St Jago paid for it, by beating them on their field. Teachers such as Mrs Weatherburn (Woolery) Mrs Brady and Miss Neal. Mrs Anderson. THANKS FOR ALL YOUR SUPPORT.

I attended St Catherine High from 1978-1983...In 2000, I migrated to Atlanta, GA where I currently work in the field of Customer Communications at the UPS headquarters. Paulette Chin and Winsome Gayle were my best friends in my early years at SCHS and remain etched in my fondest memories. I would love to hear from them or any of my fellow Catherine—nites wherever in the world they are. Hi Miss Olivier (history), you were my favorite teacher. Thanks SCHS, you were the best years.

I am happy to see the website for what I consider the "University of St Catherine". I received the best education for life at St Catherine High and will always be proud of my sojourn there. Many of the friendships I developed at STCHS are still strong today and I owe a debt of gratitude to all the teachers who believed in me and helped to hone my leadership skills. May SCHS continue to grow from strength to strength.

I shouldn't be the one talking, but I remember the days of "Africa," while I observed preparations for A' Levels, (no wonder I don't reach UWI yet...) or supported a quiz practice while in I was in training. Not to forget probably my early attempts at multi-tasking: watching cricket matches on the field while attending Mrs. Duff (I think...) Econ classes or Mr. Martin's afterschool History help. With all those memories, I only can only repeat, "Dear St. Catherine High [I] love you...[I] will ever withold your teachings..." I was left well rounded.

I remember the days St Catherine High School presented me. Joy, laughter, surprises, knowledge, disappoinments and other day to day fundamentals. Even tho im not a graduate at the skool, my four years there are the most memorable of my life. From the point of admittance in 1997 until i migrated in 2001. I remember every meticulous detail of my time there. Memories flood my mind everyday both good and bad, too much to even begin to write. THANK YOU St. Catherine High School, for everything. I wish every student will have an experience as spontaneous and precious as mine. PRECES OPERA OMINA VICUNT!!!

My name is Paul McFarlane I graduated in the class of 1984. I'm now living in Toronto Canada, and still have fond memories of this great school. My favourite teachers were Mrs. Rose Scott (English Language), Ms. Charmaine Duffus (Agricultural Sc.), and my Father figure Form teacher in grade 11 Mr. Trevor Myers. I still remember our stern and no non-sense Principal Ms Madge "Andy" Anderson. It doesn't matter how tough we think we were, as soon as we hear "Andy a come" then everyone get moving. Hats off to Ms Anderson and all the wonderful staff that help equiped me for the outside world. I would like to hear from some of my past-class mates! (pjmack2 'at' yahoo.ca)
