Basketball News
The Past Students Association would like to recognize the contribution of gears for the Basket ball team from a group of past students in the US. This effort from alumni, who themselves played basketball for the school, was led by Andrew “Junglist” Hamilton and Richard Walker and included Miguel Campbell, Garfield Baker and Dwight McKenzie.
The gears were used for by the team in the 2006 season.
The efforts of Andrew, Richard and the others are an example of the kind of support the school needs on an ongoing basis, and on behalf of the wider alumni body we not only thank them for the money spent but the diligence and the follow-up in ensuring the gears got to Jamaica.
First Basketball Team

Thanks for the St Catherine High web page. It has brought back some great memories for me. I taught Industrial Arts and coached the first basketball team at St Catherine from 1971-1973 as a Peace Corps Volunteer...I would be glad to hear from you and any of the students and basketball players for the early 70s. - Richie Weber
Basketball Champions 2006
St.Catherine High School (SCHS) achieved a major milestone when the school lifted both the KFC/ISSA School-boy; Southern Conference (Spanish Town & the Corporate Area) and the All-island National Basketball championships. They overcame the previously unbeaten Wolmers in the finals to win the Southern conference. While it was an all Spanish Town affair as St. Jago were dispatched 62-53 in the finals of the All-Island competition. This is the first time SCHS is winning both titles in the same year.
The victory was further crowned by the news that point-guard Javan Bailey was under-19 player of the year while coach and Past Student Lennox Lindo was under-19 coach of the year.
It was not all smooth sailing for the boys as they qualified on goal difference for the Southern Conference semi-finals. However they were resilient and believed in themselves. This was exemplified by their attitude after blowing a 21 point in game 2 of the Southern conference final, at St. Johns Rd. They had previously won game 1 at Wolmers and were looking forward to closing out at home. Whereas the officiating was highly questionable they did not blame the referee but knew they were the better team and wanted to play game 3 the next day. They had to wait a little longer but blew out Wolmers at the Stadium courts.
This was an outstanding season and we are looking forward to a good season next year, while hoping a couple of the lads will land basketball scholarships.
Remember help is always needed to fund these teams.
