Tameka Wilson
It was a sunny "September morning" in 1994 when I walked through the gates of St Catherine High clad in a bright red t-shirt, blue lambada skirt and slippers, only to be greeted by a sea of blue. Yes! You guest it. I was the only one not in uniform. I wasn't embarrassed and the ability to "stick out" stuck with me all throughout high school. I gleaned nicknames such as "peas head", "nanny" and "freakazoid"; all gained at different stages because of something I participated in or a physical characteristic.
While I am proud of the various positions held in the many clubs I was involved with, my most treasured moments are afternoon spent after school underneath the Sixth Form Foyer and "sessions" spent in Mrs. Gordon's office (which is fitting since she was the Guidance Councilor and I was often told I needed counseling). The school has declared a state of mourning since I graduated in 2001.
